Wisconsin - Day 1

I'm traveling through Wisconsin, oh how great the scenery is! I think of the poem, "For a Lover of Nature" by Jessica Powers. The first line states, "Your Valley trails its beauty through your poems, the kindly woods, the majestic river." How true this is! The rolling lush hills and the endless farms seem to integrate so seamlessly with the aura. The farms and pastures flow with no end, the epitome of great America.

  1. If Wisconsin is known for it's farms, then it's very different than the Mid-Atlantic. There is agriculture that takes place in the region, but all of the combined cropland in the region is five percent of the total for the US. Most of the industry in Division 2 has more to do with finance, or business. As a praise, I like the imagery represented here. The only thing that struck me was that it seemed like you were using imagery VERY MUCH on purpose rather than trying to be subtle about it. But nonetheless, I do like it.

  2. Wisconsin and Mississippi are similar in two major ways: agriculture and the river. As I saw in the image accompanying your post, agriculture is a huge part of the economy of Wisconsin. I found this to be true to Mississippi as well because agriculture was once its biggest industry due to the excellent land productivity in the region. Water is an important resource to both states as well, as can be seen in your quotation, "Your Valley trails its beauty through your poems, the kindly woods, the majestic river." This can also be seen within our blog in the post, "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," where Huck Finn grows up on the river so he benefits from it greatly as well as encounters troubles as a result of growing up in that region.
